Classic Vehicle Owners Set to Avoid Dublin Congestion Charge
Wheels Apr 01, 2024
Classic vehicle owners in Dublin may find themselves exempt from upcoming congestion charges by embracing an inventive retrofitting solution proposed by government.
While local authorities in the capital city are poised in the near future to wield their power to implement congestion charges for cars built after 1985, the timeline for such legislation remains uncertain.
Nevertheless, once these charges are instituted, they will grant local authorities the autonomy to devise strategies for congestion charges tailored to each area’s transportation landscape with exceptions being made for Ireland’s classic vehicle owners.
However, it has been suggested that benefits cannot be fully realised until congestion levels are sufficiently alleviated, and that innovative solutions like retrofitting classic vehicles with “traffic-clearing” howitzers and Gatling guns that could offer a discreet advantage to alleviating traffic congestion in Dublin.
